MANILA, Philippines - Though many have tried - and failed - in having American pop superstar Madonna hold a concert here, actor and aggressive concert promoter Marvin Agustin still has her in his wish list.
"Madonna, U2, Britney Spears and winners of 'American Idol.' These are the artists I dream of bringing to the Philippines," he said during the thanksgiving gathering for the success of the Bruno Mars concert that he co-promoted recently together with Rhiza Pascua's Music Management International (MMI), Raul de Jesus, Eugene Flores, Kris Aquino and Boy Abunda.
Agustin realizes, though, that if he does succeed with the Material Girl, he and his team, Futuretainment, can only hold the concert in an open-air venue "dahil di natin kakayanin ang gastos kung hindi!"
The last time Madonna held a world tour was in 2009 via the "Sticky & Sweet Tour," which, after its first leg, earned $282 million. It eventually became the fourth highest grossing tour of all-time, behind tours held by U2, AC/DC and The Rolling Stone's.
The last time someone of Madonna' stature and legacy held a concert in Manila was in 1996 with the late Michael Jackson's "HIStory World Tour."
