In 2006 Madonna co-founded Raising Malawi to bring an end to the extreme poverty and hardship endured by Malawi's 2,000,000 orphans and vulnerable children -once and for all. Raising Malawi provides financial and other assistance to nongovernmental and community based organizations working in health, education, nutrition, water and sanitation, economic sustainability, psychosocial support, and child advocacy. Raising Malawi collaborates with a vast range of partners to ensure that dedicated people on the ground and in the villages are able to bring Malawians the help they need.
Raising Malawi is now developing an all-girls secondary boarding school (Raising Malawi Academy for Girls) in Lilongwe, Malawi that will provide a high-quality education for girls from impoverished backgrounds and prepare them for high-level education and professional careers.
