The Friday MTV Telethon to raise money for the ones affected in the Haiti earthquake was a hit event for sure. But the star studded affair had its glum soft, teary n mushy moments as well. There was a point of time when the crowd got teary eyed with Madonna’s shinning quire performance of the song “Like a prayer”. Haiti’s own native son Wyclef Jean decided to cheer the crowd up as he said “Enough of this moping, man, let’s rebuild Haiti, let’s show ‘em how we do it where we come from!” “Rivers of Babylon,” was the song he sang to lift the audience’s spirit.
More than 140 stars appeared at the event to help raise money for the Caribbean country. Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, Bono, Coldplay, Rihanna, Sting, Stevie Wonder and Sheryl Crow all performed on stage and hew moment later addresses were made from ex-US president Bill Clinton, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Nicole Kidman and Samuel L. Jackson.
George Clooney the host of the show said “This is a tragedy that reaches across all borders, all boundaries. It demands our attention, our help and our compassion.
“The Haitian people need help. They need to know that they are not alone. They need to see that we still care.”
