Madonna recycles classic 80's ensemble as she hits New York
by Simon Boyle, Daily Mirror 27/04/2011
The queen of reinvention has done it again… this time turning back into HERSELF.
Madonna, 52, was spotted out in New York yesterday in a trilby and shades, with ripped jeans and black leather jacket.
It was almost identical to her famous mid-1980s look when she starred in Desperately Seeking Susan.
A quarter of a century may have passed but one onlooker said yesterday: “I recognised her immediately. I couldn’t believe it.
“I was a huge fan when she was at her peak in the 80s, and she didn’t look very different when I saw her.
“It was the kind of outfit I used to wear when I wanted to be just like her.”
Madonna was meeting executives about her directorial debut in W.E. It tells the story of King Edward VIII – who abdicated to wed US divorcee Wallis Simpson – and flits between the past and the present.
A bit like our Madge’s wardrobe...
by Amber Morales, fashion director
Oh dear, looks like Madge has been raiding her daughter's wardrobe again. I bet 14-year-old Lourdes looked hot in this - but sadly her 52-year-old mother isn't quite rocking it.
Madonna's wardrobe schizophrenia seems to be getting worse. Her look swings wildly between middle-aged Italian mamma and hormonal teenager. I am not sure which is worse.
Elements of this outfit work but as a whole it's a disaster. 1980s jeans, 1950s sunglasses and ballet pumps? I'm not saying that everyone over the age of 50 should reach for the twin-set and pearls but I think it's the decade you should say goodbye to your ripped stonewashed jeans.
Madonna should stick to the Dolce & Gabbana tailoring and leave this to the young 'uns.
