Telemarketers, Checkout Girls And Giant Chickens: The Best Of Celebrity First Jobs
May. 31 2011 - 10:41 am

Before Madonna sang Like A Prayer, she was literally living on one. That and the paltry hourly wage she earned as a cashier at Dunkin Donuts. Before Kanye West was rapping about fresh tees and khakis, he was folding them gingerly—as a retail clerk at GAP. Supermodel Cindy Crawford shucked corn and even shirtless wonder Matthew McConaughey had to clean a few chicken coops before he landed his dream gig in Hollywood.
Take heart, new grads! This month, millions of college graduates will go in search of their own dream jobs, and things are looking up: NACE reports that nearly every sector is looking to hire recent grads–hiring is up 19.3 percent for 2011 college graduates compared to the Class of 2010. But even with the numbers on the rise, the harsh reality of the 2011 job market means that nearly 50% might find themselves settling for jobs that don’t put their degree to use, or, in the case of the lucky ones, landing only an unpaid internship before their big break happens.
Employment rates for new college graduates have fallen sharply in the last two years, as have starting salaries for those who can find work,” wrote Catherine Rampell in the New York Times. “What’s more, only half of the jobs landed by these new graduates even require a college degree.”
Luckily, Her Campus, an online magazine for college women, is looking on the bright side. Rather than moan over the trials of the underpaid, the boomerangers who’ve moved back home for the summer or the crushing ego blow that occurs when you put your degree to work behind a cash register, they’re chosen to highlight some of America’s most famous faces—and the hours of grunt work they put in before landing on the silver screen.

Victoria Beckham – A sperm
Yes, you read correctly. Posh Spice made her small-screen debut as a roller-skating sperm in a BBC sex-ed production called Body Matters.  She’s still a sex symbol, but now it’s less literal…

Kanye West – GAP Employee
Kanye got his start like most hard-edged rappers …by folding sweaters at The Gap?  Now it’s clear why he’s such a trendsetter, although we still can’t see his trademark glasses making it into Gap stores next to the khakis.

Jennifer Aniston – Telemarketer
If you hung up on a telemarketer in the early nineties, you may have ruined pre-Friends Jen’s day.  But don’t worry, Karma’s got it covered—these days you’d end up paying her for 10 minutes on the phone.

Rachel McAdams – McDonald’s employee
The first script McAdams had to memorize went something like this: “Would you like fries with that?”  But what’s truly impressive is that Micky-A worked at Micky-D’s for three whole summers in an effort to make bank.  Eventually, Rachel graduated from the Golden Arch to the Golden Globes…not bad.

Madonna – Dunkin Donuts clerk
Madonna is many things, but a donut virgin is not one. The icon worked at the popular donut franchise as a teenager to make extra cash.  (Looks like even young Mad knew she needed dough in a material world.)

Brad Pitt – Giant Chicken
Pitt may go down as the most attractive human chicken in history. In between acting jobs, limo driving and refrigerator moving, Brad donned a giant chicken costume to lure passersby into El Pollo Loco on Sunset Boulevard. But don’t feel too bad for Brad…now he’s making the big bocks, I mean bucks.

In the great design of things you'll get an A+ for effort and hard work. Where exactly you confused me personally was first in your facts. You know, as the maxim goes, details make or break the argument.. And that could not be much more true in this article. Having said that, let me say to you precisely what did deliver the results. Your text is definitely highly engaging and that is most likely the reason why I am taking an effort to opine. I do not really make it a regular habit of doing that. Second, whilst I can easily notice the leaps in reasoning you come up with, I am not necessarily certain of exactly how you appear to connect the details which make the actual conclusion. For the moment I will yield to your point but trust in the foreseeable future you actually link your dots much better.
