Madonna's daughter Lourdes Leon gives glimpse of new line, Material Girl

Madonna's daughter wants to dress you up - in her new fashion line.
Fashionistas got their first glimpse yesterday of Lourdes Leon's new line, Material Girl.
The crafty 13-year-old and her megastar mom worked together on the collection of juniors duds, which debuts Aug. 3 at Macy's.
Shoppers won't need a superstar salary to afford the clothes, shoes, bags and jewelry, which will sell for $12 to $40.
Madge has maintained that Lourdes - or Lola, as mom calls her - took the design lead, saying, "I think this line is absolutely an extension of her taste."
But the fashions do channel her mom's iconic "Like a Virgin" style, mixing over-the-top elements like tutu-skirt dresses and studded combat boots, according to Macy's.
And pieces are designed with layering in mind - a hallmark of Madonna's '80s style.
In 2007, Madonna went from fashion icon to designer herself, debuting the M by Madonna line for H&M, which featured trench coats and minidresses.
And more recently, Madonna, 51, and her manager, Guy Oseary, formed a fashion company called MG Icon, which will own 50% of the Material Girl brand.
If mom's experience - and name - aren't enough of a push for the line, Macy's promises that there is also a yet-to-be-named celebrity muse who will be attached to the collection.
The star will be revealed when the brand officially launches in August - and is hinted at with the first ad from the campaign, which will debut June 29.

Madonna's new fashion statement
Teens, get ready to express yourselves with Madonna's new line, Material Girl, which launches Aug. 3 at Macy's Mall of America, Rosedale and Burnsville Center stores.
The juniors collection designed by Madonna and her 13-year-old daughter, Lourdes Leon, includes clothing, footwear, jewelry and handbags; items retail for $12 to $40. There are plans to launch a fragrance in 2011.
This isn't Madonna's first foray into fashion. The singer designed a women's capsule collection for H&M in 2007 that offered classic pieces such as trench coats and sleek dresses. Sketches of her Material Girl debut show plenty of prints and embellishments along with a mix of hard and soft elements, such as a tutu with combat boots. (Desperately seeking Susan, anyone?)
The collection will take to the runway at Macy's Glamorama event on Aug. 6.
And, no, Madonna isn't scheduled to attend

Madonna's clothing line: Now you can dress like a Material Girl

This fall, girls and young women across the country may be living in a material world.
Material Girl, the new junior's clothing line created by Madonna and her 13-year-old daughter, Lourdes Ciccone Leon (a.k.a. Lola), hits 200 Macy's stores nationwide Aug. 3.
Parents needn't worry that the clothes will be overtly sexy.
There are no bullet bras or leather bustiers made famous by the pop singer in concert tours past. Instead, the Material Girl collection takes inspiration from Lourdes' eclectic tween style.
"I really like the way Lola dresses," Madonna, 51, said in a release. "I think this line is absolutely an extension of her taste. We like to combine, say, like a plaid or a flannel with lace or leather with lace or rhinestones. So we mix and match textures and fabrics and elements that are both masculine and feminine." The line features prints and embellishments, blending soft and hard elements that have been part of Madonna's own style since the 1980s. Examples include a tutu dress with studded combat boots and an oversize boyfriend sweatshirt with a floral-print miniskirt.
Most pieces are created for layering.
The collection, which targets 13- to 25-year-olds, will be sold exclusively at Macy's and include apparel, footwear, handbags and jewelry, with prices ranging from $12 to $40. Plans already are in place to expand into beauty and fragrance categories in 2011.
, a winner of multiple Grammy awards and a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, is known for her fashion sense, as well as for her music.
This year, she was featured in Dolce & Gabbana spring/ summer ads, and she has appeared in ad campaigns for Louis Vuitton, Versace and The Gap. In 2007, she created a limited-edition collection, M by Madonna, at H&M stores.
Madonna reportedly has said her friend and fashion designer Stella McCartney was the first to encourage Lourdes' budding design talent when the girl was just 8 years old.
The new collection's ad campaign launches Tuesday at and on the Material Girl Facebook and Twitter pages, which will feature videos and Lourdes' fashion blog.

Madonna launches clothing line for girls
By Jill Radsken
Thursday, June 24, 2010 - Updated 14h ago

Is Madonna too cool - or not cool enough - for school?
That’s the question teen girls will decide when shopping the pop icon’s debut clothing line this summer.
The Material Girl collection, a design collaboration with Madonna and daughter Lola, will hit Macy’s in August. But sketches released yesterday give a first glimpse into how Madge thinks girls should express themselves.
The line, so says the press release, is intended for thespontaneous and fearless individual who invents her own fashion trends and is never afraid to make a bold, creative statement.”
But will middle-schoolers - and their moms - declare the midriff-baring top back in vogue? Yikes. Material Girl, with items retailing from $12 to $40, is about “piling on the layers.” In other words, buying more Material Girl.
In addition to clothes, the label will include shoes, handbags and jewelry. But it’s hard to imagine Macy’s selling the pendants and earrings with religious crosses sketched in these early images.
Borderline, at best.

Madonna's Clothing Range Extension
24 June 2010 12:30:10

Madonna admits her Material Girl clothing range is an ''extension'' of her 13-year-old daughter Lourdes' style.
's clothing range with daughter Lourdes is an "extension" of her style.
The pair have collaborated on a children's clothing and accessories range for US department store Macy's, and Madonna confesses 13-year-old Lourdes brought much of her own personal style to the collection, entitled Material Girl.
She revealed: "I think this line is absolutely an extension of her taste.
"We like to combine a plaid or a flannel with a lace or leather with lace or rhinestones. So we mix and match textures and fabrics and elements that are both masculine and feminine."
The range, which includes clothes, handbags and jewellery, will range from $12 to $40.
The 'Celebration' singer recently revealed Lourdes regularly takes clothes from her own wardrobe and styles them in ways she wouldn't think of.
She said: "It's weird because my closet doesn't really have that much of that look so she's somehow figured out a way to do it on her own... thrift shops and taking bits and pieces from her favourite stores... stealing stuff from my closet and she creates this look that is her own, but also influenced by the early '80s and the way that I used to dress, so I think it's in the DNA."
The Material Girl clothing range will hit stores on August 3.

She's the queen of pop and her daughter is fast becoming an icon with the fashion industry at her feet.
Now Madonna and Lourdes are offering fans a glimpse into their coveted (walk-in) wardrobes with a junior fashion collaboration sure to generate mass hysteria this summer.
Material Girl, launching in August, combines vintage Madonna with 13-year-old Lourdes' fresh style in a line that includes skinny jeans, strapless mini-dresses and naturally - a corset or two.
The sneak preview sketches are reminiscent of Madonna's 1980s heyday, fingerless gloves, crucifix jewellery, turned up sleeves offset by Lourdes's geek chic glasses and floral dresses.
