Courtney Love literally missed the boat in Istanbul over the holiday weekend. Love and a cadre of arty A-listers, including Kirsten Dunst, Michael Stipe, Another magazine's Jefferson Hack and French artist Sophie Calle boarded a tour vessel Sunday at the Istancool cultural fest for a ride along the Bosphorus hosted by Caroline Koç. But before the boat loaded up, Love insisted on heading to her hotel "to chant," a source said. By the time she got to the docks, the rest of Istancool had floated away without her. The night before, Love wowed the 'Cool crowd -- including Tilda Swinton and Ryan McGinley -- by playing an acoustic set including a version of Madonna's "Like a Prayer." She even stayed in Istanbul Monday to shoot a new video for her single "Samantha" for director Alphan Eseli. Liberatum's Pablo Ganguli exec-produced the shoot.

Guy Pratt's Wake-Up Call at the Hi-Fi Bar until April 24.
ROCK and roll, according to Guy Pratt, is "an ocean of puerile nonsense" - and he's got the anecdotes to back up his claim.
Pratt has been touring bass player for the likes of Pink Floyd, Bryan Ferry, Robert Palmer and David Bowie. He's seen more hotel rooms than he cares to remember.
For anyone who enjoys Spicks and Specks or RocKwiz, an hour with Pratt is an hour well spent.
The Brit raconteur has a keen, self-deprecating wit. He laughs that he's recently toured in a Pink Floyd tribute band - and the money was better.
He knows how to spin a tale. He does a pretty good Keith Richards impersonation, too.
Admittedly some of the anecdotes are a bit ho-hum (the Spandau Ballet material; an anecdote about Andy Taylor from Duran Duran). But the minutiae of what it's like to be part of a gigantic rock entourage - hotels, check-ins, wake up calls, packing, the tour bus - is genuinely interesting.
And then there's the more gossipy material: ever wonder what Robert Palmer did on his days off? What former Rolling Stone Bill Wyman is doing now? Or what working for Madonna is like?
Pratt plays his bass for a handful of musical interludes, which includes a brilliant gag at Duran Duran's expense.
He doesn't smash his guitar at the end of the show, though. As he informs us in one story, smashing a guitar is a lot harder than it looks.

Should Madonna’s “Like a Prayer” maybe have been a country song this whole time? Don’t worry: I realize what I’ve opened myself up to by asking that question. Madonna freaks — i.e. most of the world — will fry me. (I welcome the hate commentary below!) But seriously, that’s what I asked myself as I watched this cover of the classic Madonna song by Sugarland and Little Big Town, which was recorded live at a concert in Bloomington, IL, on Friday night. It’s real good.
I think my affection for “Like a Prayer” as a country song is a three-parter:
1) I’m so familiar with the song. Like, what cover of “Like a Prayer” wouldn’t be good?
2) The semi-religious undertones (overtones?) in the song — well, at least the use of the word “prayer” — very much seems at home in any country song. Right? Seems like it to me, at least, and the Sugarland/LBT folks give it a pureness. And, lastly,
3) Jennifer Nettles just rules — her voice gives me chills. And throw in Little Big Town — who Sugarland is pretty regularly collaborating with at this point — and it’s just all that much better. This six-some did Madonna justice. Watch the video below.

On Monday, February 21, Adam Lambert's guitarist Monte Pittman performed a showcase at Molly Malone's in Hollywood, accompanied by Adam's touring bassist Tommy Joe Ratliff...AND Adam's former tourmate and "American Idol" castmate, Allison Iraheta. Alli was summoned onstage to belt out a crazy cover of Madonna's "Crazy For You," reaching octaves Madge could only imagine, and the crowd went crazy for her..
AND I FRICKIN' MISSED IT!.
Oh well. Thanks to the magic of the Interweb, we can all experience the moment here..

Lady GaGa played an intimate mini-set at New York's Oak Room club on Wednesday evening, leaving fans at the Plaza Hotel venue "starstruck."
The Bad Romance hitmaker, who wore a black S&M style dress for the gig, was also joined by her boyfriend, Luc Carl, as witnesses to her spontaneous show compared Lady G to "seeing Madonna in 1984."
An onlooker told our US Team: "People were actually very into it; they were very calm and collected and starstruck at the same time. It was an excited crowd, but a reserved crowd. They wanted to respect her."
"We were standing 20 feet away from her. I am a huge Lady Gaga fan. It was amazing being there and seeing her up close. It's like seeing Madonna in 1984."
They continued: "She has such a cute New York accent. She did talk a little bit. She was just having fun with it. You'd think she was getting paid a million dollars for it."
A representative for the club also told MTV US: "Every Wednesday at the Oak Room, we have a jazz night with Brian Newman, and Lady Gaga and Brian are old friends."
"So she came once before to support him and it turned out she's obsessed with the room and it's the only place she'll play impromptu for free."
The rep added: "She loves the space and came there in her getup. She came there with her boyfriend, Luc Carl, and when they first got there, Brian was playing Sinatra songs and she was dancing and singing. Everyone was dancing and cheering and hanging out."
"She said she felt bad for the horses outside because it was cold. She told the owner that she'd be back in the near future."
It is thought that the 24-year old, who earlier this week announced that she will premiere her new single, Born This Way, at the Grammy Awards next month, performed her favourite songs by Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole at the impromptu gig.

On susurre le nom de Beyonce et de Robie Williams. Madonna en plus, interprétera un de ses morceaux phares en duo avec une grande star du raï qui a la cote actuellement dans l’Hexagone. L’Agence de Rayonnement culturel a pu avoir ainsi un contrat en or avec cette boîte de prod qui active en France et dont le président n’est autre qu’un Algérien, fils d’un émigré qui évolue dans le milieu du show business américain.
Move Prod a eu à placer de nombreuses stars internationales dans le monde, y compris dans le Maghreb, à l’image de Maria Carey il y a deux ans en Tunisie. A l’heure qu’il est, on ne connaît pas encore le prix de ce concert exceptionnel qui se prépare d’ores et déjà.
L’on sait déjà que le billet d’accès sera abordable, nous a-t-on assuré compte tenu de l’événement qui s’adresse essentiellement aux jeunes.
L’Algérie veut faire de cette journée un rendez-vous avec la musique universelle, un moment unique et inoubliable à marquer dans les annales de l’histoire artistique de la capitale. On apprend aussi que la recette de ce concert, du moins le cachet de Madonna, sera reversé à des associations caritatives pour enfants dont Madonna a la charge aux USA.
Ce concert est né, en fait, à l’initiative d’une association algéro-américaine dans le cadre des échanges bilatéraux entre les deux pays respectifs. L’idée a plu à cette société de production, Move Prod qui a voulu prendre le relais en concoctant un programme à la hauteur de son prestige.
Hélas, il se pourrait qu’un milieu islamiste hostile à la venue de Madonna en Algérie tente de capoter le projet. Cela ne serait pas sans rappeler le triste épisode de Linda de Suza empêchée de se produire dans les années 1990, à la salle Atlas.
Un programme diplomatique et touristique digne d’une reine est prévu afin que Madonna reparte avec la meilleure image possible de l’Algérie.
Un circuit touristique allant de la Casbah, de Tipasa à Timgad, lui sera réservé en plus d’autres surprises. Notre patrimoine étant le cheval de bataille de notre ministre de la Culture, celle-ci entend renforcer les liens avec les Etats-Unis en tablant sur des rapports d’échange dans le domaine.
Madonna entreprendra ses visites guidées sous haute surveillance, notamment en compagnie de notre ministre de la Jeunesse et des Sports Hachemi Djiar. Mieux que le Panaf, un rendez-vous unique à ne pas rater. Affaire à suivre donc!

George N. Parks

George Nathan Parks (May 23, 1953 – September 16, 2010) was the director of the University of Massachusetts Minuteman Marching Band, the University of Massachusetts Amherst from 1977 until his sudden death in 2010. Considered a national authority on drum majoring, he led the George N. Parks Drum Major Academy, a summer workshop program for high school drum majors.
Parks died suddenly of a heart attack on the evening of September 16, 2010 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio after a performance with the UMass Marching Band at Cuyahoga Falls High School. He was traveling to Ann Arbor, Michigan with the Band for a football game on September 18 between UMass and the University of Michigan. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Jeanne, and his two children, Michael and Kathryn. On Homecoming Day at UMass, on October 16, 2010, Parks was honored by current and former band members and staff. The annual alumni band (made up of people who have since graduated from UMass but participate in the event) was the largest the university had ever seen, with approximately 900 - 1,000 participants, compared to the usual 50-100.
The George N. Parks Marching Band Building at the University of Massachusetts, scheduled to open in March 2011, will be named in Parks' honor. The name was chosen a year before his death and announced in Parks' presence at the groundbreaking in October 2009.
Parks achieved success as a drum major, as a teacher of drum majoring and as a band director.
